-----------
WHAT IS IT?
Anyone familiar with the show MST3K is probably familiar with lovable
Torgo, the big-kneed lummox featured in _Manos: the Hands of Fate_
(arguably the worst film ever made). The Torgo Screen Saver sends him
lumbering around your screen, knees a-pumping. He spouts a few phrases,
Crow reassures you Torgo's still around when he walks off screen, and the
lovely wife in the doomed family gasps.
--------------------
HOW DO I INSTALL IT?
Well, obviously you've unzipped the package since you're looking at this.
You should see a file called "torgo.scr". Copy this file to your \windows
directory. Now the screen saver utility in the desktop control panel can
use the Torgo Screen Saver.
--------------------------
HOW DO I CONFIGURE/RUN IT?
First of all, you *don't* need a fancy screen saver (like After Dark)
to run the Torgo Screen Saver. All you need is to run Windows (preferably
3.1-- I haven't tested it under 3.0).
1. Once you've copied "torgo.scr" to your Windows directory, open the
Control Panel from the "Main" Program Group in your Program Manager.
2. Open the "Desktop". In the Desktop dialog box, you'll see a control
group called "Screen Saver".
3. Use the "Name" selector to scroll to "Torgo saves the screen". Click
on it to make the Torgo screen saver the active one.
4. Press the "Setup..." button in the Screen Saver area for the dialog
that lets you determine how fast Torgo should walk, if you want sound,
how often the sounds should be played, and whether or not you want
security attached to your screen saver. Click "OK" to save your
selections.
5. ***********Press the "Test" button to see him go!*************
6. Set the "Delay" time for how many minutes idle you want to elapse before
Torgo starts walking all over the place, saving your monitor from
demonic burn-in.
NOTE: If you are using other screen savers (like After Dark or Intermission)
you may want to exit or disable them.
----------------------------------------------
WHY DID YOU *DO* THIS, YOU SILLY SILLY PERSON?
For fun and giggles, and besides, the Macintosh weenies were pissing me
off by lording over us PC types that THEY had a Torgo screen saver
and WE didn't. Well, neener neener back atcha, you user interface wimpoids.
I mean that in a *good* way. :-) (Actually, after grappling inside my
PC more times than I'd like to mention and never wanting to hear the
acronym "IRQ" *ever* again, I certainly sympathize with Mac users on how
easy plug-n-play is. I also think Bill Gates is the Anti-Christ.)

Kudos must go to the original developers of the Macintosh saver (Lynsa,
Seth, and the Mads [Brandon]). They drew the Torgo animation, and did
most of the sounds (I extracted these from the Mac saver). I added a
few sounds and made the thing less elite by not tying it to After Dark
as the Mac folks did. Since their saver is FREEWARE, and mine is
FREEWARE, no (legal) harm done in the porting.
Here is language to that effect from the developers:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
OK, here's the official disclaimer. They can check it with me
personally at my aol account if they want to: lynsa@aol.com.
Lynsa, aka Lynn Siprelle, and Brandon the Mad Scientist, aka Brandon
Bogle, have no problem with Dorothy Nelson porting the animation etc
from "Torgo, the Module of Fate" from Mac format to Windows, even
though we really can't stand Windows. We're sure Dorothy's a nice
person who just wants to make the program available. It's freeware
anyway, even in the Mac format. As long as the basic contents of the
program are undisturbed, and Brandon, Seth and Lynsa retain their
credit, everything's cool and groovy.

IS THERE A SHAREWARE FEE?
No way. Not only is the original animation not mine, but this is the
first screen saver I've ever written. So enjoy, and the only thing I
ask is that my name be immortalized as the one who brought Torgo to
the PC.
'Course, this means I can't promise that I'll fix things if you have a
problem with it. Do send suggestions and comments
(to dnelson@klange.eris.org), but I really can't promise action.
---------------------------------------
CAN I COPY AND DISTRIBUTE THIS AT WILL?
Go for it. Just give me the credit/blame for being the PC gnerd
who made it possible.
